Who is ÓRALE

ÓRALE’s mission is to build and sustain a thriving immigrant-led movement to end the criminalization of immigrants and secure bold protections and opportunities that allow immigrant communities to thrive.

At the heart of ÓRALE’s work is power-building. We do this by organizing alongside directly impacted community members to grow leadership, strengthen our collective voice, and push for bold local policy change and equitable City budget investments. Through our immigrant justice and legal empowerment work, we ensure community members have access to trusted information, legal education, and support to navigate and challenge systems that have historically criminalized and excluded them.

The immigrant identity is complex. We are multifaceted human beings, and ORALE’s work is a reflection of this. ÓRALE’s economic justice work centers on stability, dignity, and survival, providing community members locked out of traditional systems with resources, mutual support, and pathways toward economic self-determination. Our holistic health justice programming, including mutual aid, directly addresses food apartheid and food insecurity in Long Beach, nourishing and supporting more than 1,000 families each year with fresh produce and more.

Across all of our work, ÓRALE centers lived experience, collective care, and dignity. We don’t just respond to harm; we organize to change the conditions that create it, starting at the root and moving forward together.

Why ÓRALE Exists

ÓRALE was created by and for immigrants who are criminalized, excluded, and pushed to the margins every single day in all aspects of their lives, yet, in spite of the systematic oppression, we understand our power.

We organize to meet immediate needs and to change the conditions that cause harm in the first place. That means showing up during moments of crisis while also building long-term community power rooted in dignity, safety, and joy.
